With the latest version installed, I am told that my machine does not support virtual backgrounds. The help page does not list W11 among supported operating systems! Will that be corrected on the W11 release date? Go to Solution. I see that I am in good company! It is interesting that Microsoft Teams has no difficulty with using backgrounds on this machine but Zoom has still not learned how to do it! View solution in original post.
Was this an upgrade - did the same machine previously have Windows 10 and work with Virtual Backgrounds? Otherwise, does the computer itself meet the minimum system requirements for Virtual Backgrounds?
With tongue in cheek I pointed out that Teams has no trouble at all in using backgrounds on my Windows 11 machine. I suggested that the solution was to use Teams instead of Zoom, in the hope that the Zoom writers would spring into some sort of action.
The forum lads have revised the log-in process, but there is still no hope on backgrounds! It is now December.
I just updated windows to Windows 11, from Windows 10 - in Windows 10 Background ran perfectly. All of a sudden, today, after the update - ZOOM is telling me that my machine does not support background. I am a paying zoom customer and now I cannot use background because of Zoom is not on it, and I have a presentation to do on the 21st of December.
Great, Zoom. Now I think it's time I ask for a refund and move to a different video platform. This is BS. That's good information that it was working before. I had not tested that before updating a new machine to W So it might be that the only 'fix' that Zoom needs to make is in the condition for deploying the code that intelligently separates the presenter from the background.
Clicking 'I have a green screen' clearly disables that code, leaving a mixed clutter of background image and room features. So Zoom could cease to disable that feature just because a mix of hardware and OS does not match a particular recipe, instead just displaying a message that it is at the user's own risk.
Do you know I how can down load Zoom to the new Windows 10 edge based search engine, the search engine will not let me down load zoom period, and I do not know how to find a workaround. The official Windows 11 release date is October 5, - so you may not see any specific documentation until then. First I must point out a major fault in this forum. When I opened the notification there was no prompt to sign in, so I thought that that was automatic.
I wrote a long, and I hope helpful reply, and submitted it. I was taken to the login page, logged in, and that reply was lost. The installation was prompted by launching a session. The filename seemed cryptic, so I hoped that your linked installer would solve the problem. It did not. Members of the 'Windows Insider' scheme have been able to install W11 before the release date. This is a cunning way to iron out any final bugs, using the help of those curious to see what comes next.
Unless you have your new version that recognises W11 ready before that due date, there will be a clamour from those who have upgraded. Maybe you would like to post a link to it here for the community to test. Can you confirm that you computer meets the actual hardware requirements for Virtual Backgrounds. Can you confirm that Zoom is otherwise working on your computer, other than Virtual Backgrounds?
I know at least one person running Zoom on Windows 11 - but I know they would not have been using Virtual Backgrounds. The OS was updated from W10 within a couple of days of purchasing. I have not yet noticed any other problems, having used Zoom for several meetings in the last couple of days.
I Wanted to know if it worked with the Pentium Gold as I'm looking to buy a laptop with this processor? My Laptop is a brand new one with the W11 update. Is just zoom, the one giving me the background issue. Other than that, works fine. Please, help us on this! I need to use the background for work. Thank you Rupert.
I too could not use the virtual backgrounds but I installed Zoom again using the link you provided for the 64 bit and now I am in Zoom virtual background la la land! Thank you so much for providing the link. I am still convinced that somewhere in the code is a table of acceptable operating systems - and W11 is not among them!
Since this machine was able to jump Microsoft's high hurdle to install W11, I am sure that it is not deficient. After installing the linked version and finding that backgrounds were still unsupported, I checked for updates. That version was 5. I hoped that Mepemep's success was because Zoom had slipped in a sly fix, but I was disappointed. I downloaded from the link provided and I was able to participate in my meeting successfully with a selected virtual background.
As I was closing down the app I checked to see what version I was on and I noticed that there was an update available. I updated to 5. Yes, I am running Windows I also am a Tech professional so I know my stuff. Zoom is working perfectly for me. Sorry that you don't have the same experience. Help me! What did you do to get a virtual background to work on Windows 11?
I was in touch with Zoom just today and they said Windows 11 does not support a virtual background and I should "work around" on another machine.
Not an option and Zoom is no help! Sorry Zoom but this is ridiculous! Especially for paying customers! So I am supposed to downgrade my system for a virtual background? Doesn't make sense! I thought that it was just the issue of W11 being left off the list of operating systems, but others have said that they have got backgrounds to work. I can only conclude that the restriction applies to machines with shared display memory, everything else checks out. However features like eyebrow tracking work, which I would think called for more vision processing ingenuity, so maybe Zoom will get around to the background problem one day.
Are you having problems with static image backgrounds or with video backgrounds? I found that I can use static ones but not video. I am using Windows 10, but I wonder if the same thing happens with Windows 11, or if Windows 11 is more restrictive as to the hardware you must have for video backgrounds. I'd be happy with a static image! If I select 'I have a green screen' that can be enabled, but all the background clutter shows through. In all such cases, such as the 'upgrade to W11' test, there should be a 'I accept that my system might cause problems' button should force a pass to the test.
Friend has an Asus windows 10 laptop with the and gets the message saying the specs are not up to it. Which suggests Zoom perhaps do not recognise it, even though it's better than previous gen i3's that they allow..
I don't understand why they would have that requirement, when there is no similar requirement for Intel processors. I am having the same issues and I have the same processor.. So it means we can't use background for now then? Actually, it seems to be more complicated. I downgraded to Windows 10 and I am still having the same problem. And with another computer, a desktop with an Intel processor, Core i7, 4 cores, 3.
Something is wrong with Zoom. I suspect that the problem is the shared video memory. It is interesting that the face recognition features, like party hat and eyebrows, do not seem to need that video memory. Perhaps background recognition will catch up soon.
